10 Steps I’m Taking to Deliver a Jaw-Dropping Keynote in Front of 1,000+ Leaders

With my new leadership book, Supercharged Teams, now available for pre-order, I’ve been getting booked to speak every single month.

And next week, a client is flying me to Portugal where I’ll be keynoting at one of the biggest leadership conferences in the world.

I’ll be stepping on stage in front of 1,000+ leaders from across industries.

And I refuse to give a talk that’s “forgettable.”

I’m preparing to make this keynote jaw-dropping and transformational.

Here are 10 things I’m doing to prepare:

1️⃣ Studying the audience. What drives them, what challenges them, and what excites them. Speaking without this knowledge is like shooting arrows in the dark.

2️⃣ Crafting stories that spark connection. Stories are what move people across cultures, across industries, across generations.

3️⃣ Rehearsing with intention. Not just practicing words, but shaping voice, pace, and presence to keep the audience engaged.

4️⃣ Designing powerful pauses. Because silence, when intentional, often says the most.

5️⃣ Perfecting transitions. The magic is in the flow, every shift has to feel seamless so the audience never disengages.

6️⃣ Aligning every insight to business impact. Leaders don’t just want inspiration, they want relevance that ties to business growth and results.

7️⃣ Watching recordings of myself. Self-coaching is powerful. Every delivery can be sharper.

8️⃣ Practicing breathwork. To command both calm and energy when I step on stage.

9️⃣ Visualizing impact. I see the standing ovations, the lightbulb moments, the transformation, before it even happens.

🔟 Choosing an outfit that commands attention. Because the audience forms an impression before I even say a word.

Every major stage I step onto, I remind myself:

👉🏽 It’s not about me. 👉🏽 It’s about the transformation the audience experiences.

When you prepare at this level, you don’t just give a speech.

💡 You ignite change.

I’m beyond thrilled to bring this energy to Portugal next week and speak on the power of leadership that truly drives impact.

Joined by Vernā Myers, Netflix’s first Global Inclusion Strategist, we explored what it takes to balance C-suite demands with employee well-being, rebuild trust, and lead with courage in a rapidly changing world.

When my team and I secured an $8 million deal, the biggest win wasn’t the number, it was the trust behind it. Months later, that same team chose to follow me into a brand-new startup with no guarantees. Not because they had to, but because they believed. That’s the power of inclusive leadership, it builds teams that follow conviction, not comfort.

On October 15, HIC will host HR’s Impossible Job in 2025: Pleasing the C-Suite While Protecting Employees, a private roundtable for 80+ senior HR leaders.
